How to Complete a Welding Daily Report

  1. Identify the work area and current documents. Record the building, level, grid, erection sequence, drawing revision, weld map, connection detail, and other references used during the shift.
  2. Record each welder. List the welder ID, employee name or company identifier, hours, assigned work, and qualification reference where the contractor tracks it.
  3. Identify the welding process and WPS. Record the process used and the applicable WPS or approved procedure reference for each work group.
  4. Make the weld location traceable. Use member marks, connection marks, joint IDs, spool numbers, grid references, or weld-map numbers instead of broad descriptions.
  5. Record materials and consumables where useful. Identify filler metal, electrodes, wire, shielding gas, backing, or other consumables associated with the work.

  10. Finish with follow-up and next-day work. Note open inspections, repair items, access needs, consumables, equipment requirements, and the next planned welding locations.

Example Welding Daily Report Entry

Level 4 – Grid C/5, Connection M-27: Welder W-014 completed field welding at the beam-to-column connection using FCAW under WPS-07 Rev. 2. Member marks B42 and C18 and weld-map joint IDs J-118 through J-121 were recorded. Visual inspection was completed for J-118 through J-120; J-121 remained pending at shift end. Access to the next connection was delayed approximately 40 minutes while the erection crew adjusted temporary access and completed fit-up.
