SimplySub gives subcontractors a straightforward way to track crew time without making every field worker learn a complicated system. Crews can clock in from the SimplySub app, crew leaders can punch in their whole crew, and office staff can manage time entries from the punch log.
What this Feature Spotlight covers
This video walks through the main ways time tracking works in SimplySub.
- Crew leaders can punch themselves and their crew in from the time clock
- Crew members can clock themselves in without seeing or editing other workers’ time
- Managers and office staff can create punch records from the punch log
- Time can be assigned to jobs, drive time, lunch, yard time, and other custom time codes
- Labor hours can be reviewed from the punch log, job record, and payroll summary report
- Payroll reports can be downloaded to Excel and used for payroll or QuickBooks workflows
Why it matters
Accurate labor tracking helps subcontractors understand where time is going, how much labor is tied to each job, and what needs to be included in payroll. SimplySub also gives visibility into who created a punch, when it was recorded, where the worker punched in using GPS, and any notes attached to the entry.
For crews that move between jobs during the day, SimplySub keeps the workflow simple. Workers can be punched into the next job without needing a separate punch out first, helping keep job labor and bookkeeping cleaner.
Built to stay simple
The time clock is intentionally basic. Crew leaders can select “me and my crew,” remove anyone who is absent, choose the job or work code, and add notes when needed. General crew members only see their own name and cannot change their punch time, which helps preserve a reliable timestamp.
Time codes are configurable, so subcontractors can set up categories like drive time, lunch, break time, yard time, paid non-billable time, or other labor types that match how the company runs payroll and job costing.
